About the Role
We're hiring a Senior Finance Manager to take a leadership role within our EMEA Controllership team in Amsterdam. Reporting to the Associate Finance Director, EMEA, you will oversee the end-to-end controllership function across our EMEA entity portfolio, with direct responsibility for financial reporting, statutory audits, regulatory compliance, internal controls, and team development.
This is a senior, high-impact role at the intersection of technical accounting, regulatory finance, and operational leadership. You'll be a key contributor to Airwallex's banking licence workstreams, a trusted partner to our external auditors and regulators, and a mentor to the growing EMEA finance team. We expect this person to champion AI adoption within the team - not as a buzzword, but as a genuine force multiplier for how we research, analyse, report, and operate. If you're an experienced finance leader who combines deep IFRS expertise with a builder's mindset and thrives in complexity, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Do
Lead the end-to-end controllership function for a portfolio of EMEA entities, ensuring timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes in Oracle Fusion
Act as the primary finance business partner for EMEA operations, providing financial insights and strategic guidance to regional leadership
Take ownership of all EMEA statutory audits and external audit relationships (e.g. EY Lithuania, local statutory auditors), managing audit timelines, deliverables, and issue resolution from planning through sign-off
Oversee regulatory financial reporting for EMEA licensed entities, including EMI and credit institution obligations under DNB/ECB frameworks (FINREP, COREP, DORA Register of Information, ICAAP financial inputs)
Build, maintain, and enhance the EMEA internal controls framework, ensuring SOX-readiness and alignment with group control standards
Lead and mentor the EMEA Finance Manager(s) and any direct reports, developing team capabilities through coaching, knowledge sharing, and structured career development
Drive finance transformation initiatives including process standardisation, automation (e.g. Oracle workflows, reconciliation tooling), and operational efficiency improvements across the controllership function
Champion the adoption of AI tools and large language models within the EMEA finance team, identifying high-value use cases across technical accounting research, audit preparation, regulatory analysis, financial modelling, and disclosure drafting - and embedding these into team workflows and standard operating procedures
Serve as the EMEA technical accounting lead, providing guidance on complex IFRS matters including revenue recognition, lease accounting (IFRS 16), share-based payments (IFRS 2), financial instruments, and safeguarding fund disclosures
Partner with Treasury on cash management, capital monitoring, and regulatory capital adequacy reporting for licensed entities
Collaborate closely with Tax, FP&A, Legal, and Compliance on cross-functional initiatives including banking licence workstreams, new entity setups, and M&A integration
Own the Finance workstream for new licence applications and market expansion across EMEA, acting as the senior finance representative in cross-functional project teams alongside Legal, Compliance, and external advisors (e.g. KPMG, NautaDutilh). This includes building and maintaining IFRS financial models for regulatory submissions, preparing pro-forma financial statements and capital adequacy projections, delivering FINREP/COREP gap analyses and data point catalogues for new regulatory frameworks, and ensuring all finance deliverables meet regulator expectations on quality and timeline
Lead the financial integration of newly licensed or acquired EMEA entities into the group controllership framework, including entity setup in Oracle Fusion, design of local chart of accounts, establishment of opening balances, implementation of local statutory and regulatory reporting processes, and alignment with group-wide internal controls
Support the Finance Director, EMEA in the preparation of board and investor materials, management reporting, and strategic finance projects
What You'll Bring
Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CPA, RA, or equivalent)
7-10+ years of post-qualification experience, with significant experience in a senior controllership or finance management role within a multi-entity, international organisation
Deep technical knowledge of IFRS with demonstrable experience in complex accounting areas (revenue recognition, financial instruments, lease accounting, share-based payments)
Proven experience managing statutory audits across multiple European jurisdictions and engaging with Big 4 auditors
Strong understanding of regulatory financial reporting for licensed financial institutions; direct experience with EMI, PSD2, or credit institution regulatory frameworks is highly valued
Extensive hands-on experience with Oracle Fusion (Cloud ERP) or comparable enterprise ERP platforms
Demonstrated people leadership experience: track record of building, mentoring, and developing high-performing finance teams
Fintech, payments, or financial services industry experience strongly preferred
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership and external parties (auditors, regulators, advisors)
Strategic mindset with the ability to balance hands-on execution with big-picture thinking in a high-growth, fast-paced environment
Fluent in English; proficiency in Dutch or another European language is a plus
Nice to Have
Direct involvement in banking licence applications (DNB, ECB, or equivalent) or regulatory change programmes
Experience with ICAAP preparation, DORA compliance, or prudential reporting (IFR/CRR)
Experience building controllership functions from the ground up in a scaling fintech
Familiarity with multi-jurisdictional transfer pricing and intercompany frameworks
SQL, BI tools (Hex, Tableau, Databricks), or advanced data analysis capabilities
Experience with SOX implementation or pre-IPO readiness workstreams
