This is a unique opportunity to drive the future growth of Airwallex in South Korea as an experienced Outbound Sales Lead, SME & Growth. You will have the chance to build and lead a high-performing sales team, while defining our Korean customer profile and tailoring our solutions to meet the specific needs of local SMEs and digital-first businesses. Your insights will be instrumental in shaping our go-to-market strategy and establishing Airwallex as a key player in the South Korean market.
In this role, you will need to roll up your sleeves and actively sell - both direct to customers and via partners and channels - with clear accountability for generating gross profit (GP). You must bring "200% craftsmanship" to the role: this is a 0-to-1 journey where many things will be new, imperfect, or yet to be built, and your ability to build from scratch will be critical. You will also need to operate with very high intensity and ownership; as a challenger entering the South Korean market, it will take significant effort and persistence to build and scale our presence.
You will play a critical part in expanding our market footprint by collaborating closely with product, revenue operations, sales enablement, strategy, and marketing. This role will be pivotal in building a successful, scaled, revenue-generating SME & Growth function for Airwallex in South Korea.
This role is based in Seoul.
Responsibilities
Target strategic SME and Growth opportunities for Airwallex in South Korea, identifying customer pain points and delivering compelling solutions.
Build, lead, and coach a team of outbound sales development representatives and account executives (hunters) on sales methodologies, prospecting strategies, and sales effectiveness.
Develop and execute our sales and go-to-market strategy for South Korea, including defining our value proposition, refining sales pitches, and iterating based on data and performance.
Manage multiple priorities and projects, getting into the detail across a wide range of activities - from recruiting and onboarding to performance management and sales analysis.
Partner with Strategy & Operations to design and implement effective compensation plans, territory plans, team structures, and operating models that drive productivity and high performance.
Implement and embed sales frameworks and methodologies to lift overall team effectiveness and win rates.
Provide hands-on support in sourcing, progressing, and closing strategic and complex deals with key Korean customers and partners.
Present Airwallex's value proposition to prospects and customers, clearly articulating how our solutions address their specific needs and use cases.
Collaborate with the marketing team to design and execute targeted campaigns and programs that resonate with the South Korean SME audience.
Channel structured feedback from customers and the market to product and engineering teams to help shape our roadmap and local product fit.
Monitor sales metrics and pipelines, preparing regular reports on sales performance, customer trends, and market dynamics.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners in the South Korean SME ecosystem (e.g. technology partners, agencies, platforms, associations).
Represent Airwallex at industry events, conferences, and networking functions in South Korea.
Who you are
We're looking for people who meet the minimum qualifications below. The preferred qualifications are a strong plus, but not mandatory.
Minimum qualifications
7-8+ years of sales experience, preferably selling a technical or API-led product, with a consistent track record of top performance over multiple years.
At least 3+ years of experience leading a small, high-performing sales team (e.g. Account Executives, BDRs/SDRs, Inside Sales).
Ability to understand technical requirements and design solutions across multiple products and workflows.
Experience developing and executing account plans across complex organisations and multiple business units.
Strong presentation and storytelling skills, especially in in-person meetings with multiple senior stakeholders.
Proven ability to lead complex commercial negotiations, including bespoke commercial structures and agreements.
Superior verbal and written communication skills in Korean and English.
Ability to operate in a highly ambiguous, fast-paced, and evolving environment, with a strong sense of ownership.
Strong interest in technology and fintech, with a solid understanding of the broader space.
Preferred qualifications
Experience working in payments or fintech, particularly with SME and mid-market customers.
Someone who enjoys "getting things done" and consistently finds ways to drive tangible business outcomes.
A strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, comfortable using data and insights to shape strategy and priorities.
Success-oriented, with a strong sense of accountability for delivering key outcomes (e.g. revenue, GP, pipeline growth).
A collaborative team player who works effectively with stakeholders at all levels and across functions and cultures, both locally in South Korea and globally.
