Job Description:

About The Role

The Head of HSW Assurance is a key leadership position, overseeing the health and safety management system and ensuring its processes align with corporate strategies at both organizational and operational levels. This role collaborates closely with the global team of HSW professionals to ensure compliance with legal and company standards while upholding excellence in health and safety practices through targeted coaching, comprehensive audits, and systematic reviews. A strategic aspect of this position involves structuring health and safety process data for effective trending and analysis. Additionally, the Head of HSW Assurance manages a team of technical specialists dedicated to supporting the assurance function.

The Head of HSW Assurance is a key member of Ferrovial's corporate HSW team, dedicated to improving the business for the prevention of serious injuries and fatalities. The primary objective for this role is to evolve the management system and culture primarily centered on compliance to prevent fatal injuries, towards building a resilient framework with the capacity to prevent fatalities in case of error.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management System: Manage, maintain, and continuously improve the company's ISO 45001 certified health and safety management system, ensuring the integrity of our multi-site certification in the construction business.
  • Engagement and Harmonization: Creatively engage the business, especially project supervision and the HSW leadership team, to harmonize safety processes, tune them to critical risks, with a focus on serious and fatal injury prevention.
  • Process Excellence: Quality assurance and effectiveness of HSW processes throughout the project lifecycle, from tendering, contractor qualification, and design to procurement and construction operations.
  • Legal compliance: Monitor status of legal actions, citations, penalties, sanctions, judgements, etc. and provide support to ensure positive outcomes and lessons learned by jurisdiction or geography in which they arise.
  • Documentation and Accessibility: Act as the custodian of all HSW documents, policies, procedures, and manuals, ensuring they are readily accessible and usable in digital formats for our global organization.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor key HSW metrics and risk indicators, utilizing Power BI to share performance data and drive data-informed decision-making.
  • Visibility and reporting: Create awareness to safety performance, including weekly reports on construction related serious injuries and high potential events, monthly and quarterly performance metrics for the construction business.
  • Team Management: Manage a small, high-performing team that includes the HSW audit function.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in creating, managing, and maintaining ISO 45001 certified management systems.
  • Proven experience in a senior HSW leadership role within the construction or a related high-risk industry.
  • Experience or knowledge with diverse health and safety legislative frameworks, including OSHA (US), HSE Executive (UK), and "Servicio de Prevención" (Spain).
  • Experience in investigating serious incidents, including fatal injuries.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop a team of HSW professionals.
  • Proficiency in using Power BI or similar business intelligence tools for data analysis and reporting.
  • Exceptional communication, influencing, and engagement skills, with the ability to inspire a positive safety culture at all levels of a global, multicultural organization.
  • Experience with or understanding of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles and their application in a complex, high-risk environment.
