Legal Counsel, China

Role summary - The Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing advice to Payoneer's stakeholders in China regarding various legal matters, with a particular focus on corporate, privacy, employment, procurement and PRC regulatory matters.

What you'll do

  • Providing legal support on corporate governance matters for Payoneer's entities in China.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of corporate and commercial documents and agreements, including purchasing agreements, consulting agreements, partnership agreements, policies, and engagements with financial institutions.
  • Providing regulatory legal support on PRC matters related to payments, FX as well as data protection and privacy.
  • Providing guidance on employment law matters.
  • Partnering with global legal and cross-functional teams to align on group policies, standards, and contract templates.
  • Partnering with business, product and R&D to support the regulatory assessment of new products, services and GTM initiatives in China.
  • Liaising and working with outside counsel in the region.
  • Staying up to date with applicable PRC laws, regulations and industry guidance that impact Payoneer, monitoring key PRC regulatory developments and sharing such learnings with relevant stakeholders.
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders on legal matters, and collaborating with business, operations, finance, treasury, tech, compliance, internal audit and other teams within Payoneer to enable effective execution.

Who you are 

  • 4-7 years of post-qualification legal experience.
  • Bar qualification, in good standing.
  • Excellent English professional language proficiency, spoken and written.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Collaborative team player experienced at working with cross-functional teams across multiple jurisdictions and with flexibility to align with colleagues in different time zones.
  • Privacy expertise, including PIPL and experience handling cross-border data transfer projects.
  • Experience working directly with regulators and regulatory authorities in China
  • Mixed background from both a reputable law firm and in-house legal team. Financial services, payments industry, and money transmitter experience is preferred.
  • Multinational company experience and comfort operating in a matrixed environment.
