Job Responsibilities:
Responsibility for quality and conformance of product to customer specifications per control plan utilizing TS16949 & ISO14001 documented systems; authority to stop non-conforming processes and report same to supervisor, Quality Assurance, and/or Engineering department representative
Review and implementation of standards (Customer stds, Cosma stds, CQI, etc.) for the design of tooling and processes for audits
Support SmartRay and Adaptive Weld Control implementation and systems
Program and troubleshoot robotic welders and ancillary equipment
Provide operator instruction and training
Provide instruction and training for welding to EBM staff
Plan, organize and maintain equipment and process data
Maximize production efficiency by reducing equipment downtime
Assist Program Engineers at development stage during new product development
Develop and implement Continuous Improvement suggestions
Serve as Volkswagen Product Safety Representative (PSB is the customer-designation)
Review reports from systems and validate systems performance
Correlation between CMM reports and dimensional measurement systems
Correlation between Cut and etch reports and weld measurement systems
Perform touchup of robot paths, when necessary
Perform system Parameter changes when necessary
Audit tolerance schema in system and ensure it is matching with customer specifications
Preform troubleshooting on systems when down and get back up and running in a timely manner
Complete all necessary training and stay up today with technology changes
Housekeeping and other duties as assigned
Education
Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field required
Equivalent combination of education and relevant welding/manufacturing experience may be considered
Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification preferred
Technical Knowledge
Strong knowledge of welding processes, including MIG and Resistance Spot Welding
Experience with robotic welding systems, including programming and troubleshooting
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
Knowledge of electrical systems and ability to read schematics
Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
Strong mathematical skills, including geometry and trigonometry
Familiarity with automotive manufacturing welding standards and quality requirements
Qualifications:
5+ years of related experience preferred in automotive or high-volume manufacturing environments
Experience with Resistance Spot Welding (RSW) and MIG welding processes, including troubleshooting and repair
Experience with robotic welding systems, including programming, optimization, and troubleshooting
Experience with mechanical and electrical fabrication, maintenance, and repair of welding equipment
Strong understanding of weld parameters, weld schedules, and process optimization
Ability to analyze weld defects and implement corrective actions
Experience supporting launches, process improvements, or new equipment installation
Familiarity with automotive welding standards and quality requirements
Experience working with PLC controls, weld controllers, and robotic automation systems
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and weld specifications
Experience with root cause analysis and continuous improvement tools (Lean, Six Sigma, 5 Why, etc.)
Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs for welding equipment
Strong collaboration skills working with production, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams
Ability to train technicians and operators on welding processes and best practices
