Job Purpose:

Turn stewardship into momentum: Director - Data Stewardship Enablement Lead

If you believe data stewardship should be empowering, intuitive, and value‑creating, this role is for you. We're looking for a leader who can transform stewardship from an obligation into a core enabler of trusted, reusable data across R&D.

This role is about enablement at scale-equipping stewards with the skills, tools, automation, and community they need to embed governance naturally into the flow of work. Your mission is to make stewardship simple, supported, and impactful, so high‑quality, compliant data becomes the default.

Responsibilities

  • Define and champion a clear vision for data stewardship enablement as a product that delivers measurable value and supports R&D digital transformation.

  • Own the steward enablement roadmap, continuously prioritising initiatives based on steward feedback, adoption metrics, and business impact.

  • Design and deliver end‑to‑end enablement programmes, spanning onboarding, training, automation, tooling, and ongoing support.

  • Embed stewardship into daily workflows, partnering with platform teams and governance capability owners to reduce manual effort and friction.

  • Build and lead a thriving steward community of practice, enabling peer learning, shared problem‑solving, and consistent application of standards across domains.

  • Operate within a federated governance model, ensuring stewards are empowered locally while aligned to central patterns and expectations.

  • Drive adoption and maturity, influencing across business and technology teams through strong matrix leadership.

  • Measure impact through clear KPIs, tracking enablement effectiveness, stewardship maturity, and contribution to data quality and reuse.

  • Continuously innovate, bringing emerging best practices in stewardship, enablement, and product management into the programme.

Who you are

  • A builder and enabler who understands that great stewardship is as much about experience and adoption as it is about rules.

  • A product‑oriented leader who designs enablement with the user in mind and iterates based on evidence, not assumptions.

  • A community‑centric collaborator who thrives on connecting people, sharing knowledge, and scaling good practice.

  • Comfortable operating in regulated environments, translating governance expectations into practical, actionable guidance.

  • An advocate for stewardship as a strategic capability, not a checkbox.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Management, Mathematics, Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.

  • Strong leadership, team management, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement, innovation and manage complex data projects.

  • Broad experience in clinical development processes and R&D data lifecycle.

  • Experience of hub-and-spoke governance models and federated stewardship approaches.

  • Experience of policy lifecycle management and governance operating models

  • Demonstrated experience working with policy development, quality systems or standards frameworks within regulated environments

  • Proven capability translating complex technical or regulatory requirements into clear and actionable policies or procedures

  • Proven experience of GxP, data privacy, and regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Management, Mathematics, Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field.

  • Certification in data governance or data management frameworks (e.g., DAMA/DMBOK, DCAM, EDM Council) strongly preferred.

  • Experience in AI governance, responsible AI, and machine learning operations (e.g., AI ethics programs, LLMOps/MLOps certificates) strongly preferred.
