We are looking for a highly motivated Software Engineer in our Furnishing Platform team to build scalable systems and data pipelines to power our consumer credit reporting. You will partner closely with our Product, Compliance, Servicing, and Credit teams to design robust reporting systems. The systems you will work on are vital for delivering accurate and timely data from Affirm's financial product portfolio to Consumer Reporting Agencies.

What You'll Do

• Own and deliver strategic outcomes: Drive the definition and delivery of quarterly and long-term goals, ensuring your team's work ladders up to company-wide objectives. Lead engineers through ambiguity and open-ended problems, providing clarity and direction.
• Shape architecture and technical strategy: Influence the design of backend systems across  multiple teams. Ensure that solutions are scalable, extensible, and aligned with broader engineering standards.
• Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with product, analytics, and design to define solutions. Anticipate risks, articulate trade-offs, and ensure technical decisions support long-term product and business needs.
• Champion operational excellence: Ensure high availability and reliability of  services by establishing strong monitoring, alerting, and recovery practices. Drive improvements that reduce system fragility and operational burden.
• Mentor and grow talent: Guide engineers within and beyond your team through mentorship, code/design reviews, and technical leadership. Set high standards for engineering practices and foster a culture of ownership and continuous learning.
• Scale impact beyond your team: Author technical proposals, share best practices via documentation and tech talks, and advocate for improvements that raise the bar for the broader data engineering community.
• On-Call Rotation - There would be an on-call rotation for this role as a requirement

What We Look For

• Deep technical expertise: 4+ years of experience designing and building large-scale distributed backend systems, with strong proficiency in languages like Kotlin (or Python as a plus)
• Systems at scale: Proven track record of delivering high-volume, highly available systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes (Airflow, Spark, as a plus).
• Architectural leadership: Experience defining technical strategies for complex, cross-team initiatives. Ability to design elegant, extensible systems that balance short-term needs with long-term scalability.
• Operational rigor: Skilled at building resilient systems with monitoring, alerting, and safe deployment practices. Comfortable driving significant changes in large, complex codebases.
• Leadership and influence: History of mentoring engineers, unblocking teams, and shaping best practices beyond your immediate group. Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive clarity across stakeholders.
• Strong communication: Excellent verbal and written skills that enable you to influence technical and product decisions across a global engineering org. Must be proficient in asynchronous mode of communication-written tech specs, wiki, project plans, etc.
• Project management: high degree of organization and ability to surface critical information effectively.

Base Pay Grade - N

Equity Grade - Spain 4

Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range. Affirm focuses on providing a simple and transparent pay structure which is based on a variety of factors, including location, experience and job-related skills. 

Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents). In addition, the employees may be eligible for equity rewards offered by Affirm Holdings, Inc. (parent company).

ESP base pay range per year: €85,000 - €115,000

We are able to offer visa sponsorship for this role, but do require that someone is based in Spain for the role.
